TBASE is "an attempt to organize information on transgenic animals and targeted mutations generated and analyzed worldwide". It has a searchable databases for mutants and literature, an events calandar, a glossary, and links page.
The Knockouts database. Primarily concerned with nervous system phenotypes, you can search this database for "knockout" literature based on knockout type, author, title or publication.
BioMedNet: This is a general purpose biological/medical website. They have different sections for News & Comment, Research Tools, Books and Labware, Web Links, Journal Collection, Reviews, and Jobs. They also claim to have more than 730,000 members.
Germonline GermOnline is a gateway for gametogenesis. Its goals are to provide a rapid access to a comprehensive compilation of genes, expression data and functions implicated in germline development, meiosis, gamete formation, and gamete function in 11 key model systems and H. sapiens.
Molecular and Genomic Toxicology Laboratory. This site's focus is on Endocrine Disruption and Toxicogenomics; in addition, they have a database called dbTEST which is intended to encompass all genes known to be expressed in the testis.
The Ovarian
Kaleidoscope Database. This site focuses on " information
regarding the biological function, expression pattern and regulation
of genes expressed in the ovary". It has a searchable database and
educational information.
The I.M.A.G.E. Consortium The I.M.A.G.E. Consortium
"shares high-quality, arrayed cDNA libraries and places sequence, map,
and expression data on the clones in these arrays into the public
domain". If you need human or mouse cDNA, these are good people
to talk to. (More species coming).
National Center for Biotechnology Information: N.C.B.I. From
their home page: "Established in 1988 as a national resource for
molecular biology information, NCBI creates public databases, conducts
research in computational biology, develops software tools for
analyzing genome data, and disseminates biomedical information - all
for the better understanding of molecular processes affecting human
health and disease.".
Jackson Labs
The Jackson Labs focus primarily on human and mouse genetics. They
support research, have a searchable database, supply mutant strains of
mice to other labs, and are an educational institution.
Wormbase
Wormbase is an exaustive database focused on C elegans,
a tiny nematode (worm) extensively used in studies of genetics.
Wormbase is home to the authors of AceDB, which is database
software specificly designed to store genetic information and is
used as the basis of many other databases for other organisms.
UniGene
"UniGene is an experimental system for automatically partitioning
GenBank sequences into a non-redundant set of gene-oriented
clusters". It is operated by the N.C.B.I. and incorportes both
well-characterized genes and EST sequences, essentially a wherehouse
of sequence information.
Saccharomyces Genome Database
Biology of Reproduction
Flybase
The Androgen Receptor Gene Mutations Database
Green Center for Reproductive Biology Sciences
From their mission statement: "provide a link between the mechanisms of gamete development, the molecular basis of fertilization, and the bases of maintenance and acquisition of cellular totipotency or pluripotency".
This is a huge and popular website
containing literature, Nucleotide, and Protein databases. They also
operate a BLAST site for finding orthologs, a taxonomy database, and
3D structure information for many proteins. A partial list of
information found on this site includes:
Very complete site on the yeast Sacchraromyces. Includes
searchable databases, sequence and analysis tools, maps, literature guides,
downloadable data, community information, and links to other yeast sites.
Biology of Reproduction is the official journal of the Society for the
Study of Reproduction (SSR) and publishes original research on a broad
range of topics in the field of reproductive biology, as well as
minireviews on topics of current importance or controversy.
A Database of the Drosophila Genome; very comprehensive site providing
for all you fly-based needs.
A database/website "for all who are interested in mutations of the
Androgen Receptor Gene".
